Illinois water system violators beware, the state wants your money

With the State of Illinois’ financial situation being so bad its credit rating was downgraded to the worst in the nation (click here), the Illinois EPA (IEPA) will be hunting for whatever extra money it can get….

So, if you are a water or wastewater system in violation, get your act together right away…..or end up like the City of Markham, who faces big fines for not having a backflow device….click here

The state is seeking a civil penalty of $50,000 for each violation of the Illinois Environmental Protection Act and an additional $10,000 penalty for each day of the violation.

And how’s that hope and change working out for Illinois?

Of course, it always pays to stay in compliance…..to give assurance to the customers…….and residents watch your speed too, the city will need the money from speeders to pay the IEPA fines:

2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 9,500 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Press Spin: Anything goes to stop oil and gas development in New York

This article in the UK Guardian (click hereshows just how far some activists will go to stop oil and gas development in New York…..now hydraulic fracturing will “poison” New Yorkers…..

Note that the primary basis of this story is a “letter to the editor” , statements by activists, and comments made by a disgruntled state employee…..no rational analysis of the real issues, just rhetorical alarmism……oil and gas development does have impacts….but to say it is the greatest threat to New York City’s drinking water is beyond foolish….there are many more significant threats….

And the photograph…..is irrelevant….

Reality Check: Honey Bees, Toads, and Penquins, oh my

In past years, global warministas made alarming claims about honey bees disappearing, toads being killed, and penguins dying in antarctica all due to catestrophic global warming. Turns out scientists found that global warming has nothing to do with these….

Honey bees are disappearing due to a parasite (click here)…

El Nino killed the Costa Rican toads (click here)….

And penguin survival is affected by tagging, not climate (click here)….

For a full discussion, see  What’s Up With That  here, here, and here.

The lesson?  Do not believe alarming claims made by global warming advocates based only on modeling and speculation….always ask, “Where’s the science?”

Dimock Township, Pennsylvania to receive drinking water again

Oil and gas development can have a number of impacts on the surrounding area. Regardless of whether water well contamination is caused by hydraulic fracturing or some other drilling activity, local residents who end up with contaminated water wells as a result of oil and gas development should have a reliable supply of potable water provided.

Environmental activists are blaming every single contaminated well on hydraulic fracturing to stop oil and gas development nationally. But other activities and natural causes also result in water well contamination. If it is oil and gas related, then some type of compensation for damages is warranted. However, eventhough it looks obvious to the homeowner, the cause may not be hydraulic fracturing at all.
