The hottest day on record in the western US

“There have been 11,500 summer days since 1895.  July 18, 1936 was the hottest and the only one which averaged 100 degrees (99.6F)  in the western US.” click here

National Weather Service “heat index” a distortion of reality

“Only problem is, they weren’t actual temperatures – they were the “heat index.” The actual temperature at St. Joseph, Missouri today was 95 degrees – not 114 degrees. Now compare with this date in 1936, when air temperatures reached 118 degrees. Lamar, Missouri was 26 degrees hotter on this date in 1936 than it was today.” click here

Surface temperature measurements confounded by urbanization around weather stations

“I’ve been saying for years that surface temperature measurements (and long term trends) have been affected by encroachment of urbanization on the placement of weather stations used to measure surface air temperature, and track long term climate. In doing so we found some hilariously bad examples of climate science in action, such as the official USHCN climate monitoring station at the University of Arizona, Tucson “ click here (from WUWT)

Weather forecasting has a predictability limit

“Unpredictability in how weather develops means that even with perfect models and understanding of initial conditions, there is a limit to how far in advance accurate forecasts are possible, scientists said.” click here

Polar vortex is weather, not climate change

“Frankly, it is a stretch to make that link,” Kevin Trenberth, a climate scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, told The Daily Caller News Foundation on Tuesday.

“There is always cold air over the Arctic in the polar night and the question is whether it sits there or breaks out,” Trenberth said. “So all this is in realm of weather. Not climate.” click here
